The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto Continues: New Clues Emerge
05 Oktober 2024
Edit
Blockchainmedia - The mystery behind Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, still continues to attract attention. Various speculations, theories and claims have emerged again, showing how important it is to reveal the true identity of this figure for the crypto world.
Recently, an HBO documentary which will air on October 8 2024 claims to reveal new clues about who the real figure behind Satoshi Nakamoto is.
HBO Documentaries and New Claims
One of the latest clues comes from the HBO documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery.
The film was directed by Cullen Hoback, previously known for his documentary "Q: Into the Storm," in which he identified several of the originators of the QAnon conspiracy theory. Hoback now turns to uncovering the mystery behind Bitcoin's long-lost creator.
Hoback, through his social media account, teased crypto fans with the statement that this film will be a journey full of surprises.
“Some of you may be wondering why I disappeared. Well, I'm tracking someone who also disappeared. Wondering who is behind Bitcoin? MoneyElectric: Bitcoin Mysteries will air next Tuesday. "This will be a thrilling journey," he wrote in X.
Although it does not explicitly state that he succeeded in identifying Satoshi Nakamoto, many believe that this documentary will provide strong clues. However, there is no promise that the real Nakamoto will be revealed for certain.
Since Nakamoto "disappeared" from Internet forums in December 2010, speculation about who is behind the name has continued. Some theories refer to Nakamoto as an individual, group, or even entity supported by a particular country. The FBI itself refused to confirm whether it had any information regarding Nakamoto's identity.
Craig Wright and His Controversy
One name that always appears in the debate surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto is Craig Steven Wright, a computer scientist from Australia. In May 2016, Wright publicly claimed to be Satoshi in an interview with the BBC.
By using the private key associated with the first Bitcoin transaction, Wright tried to prove that he was the figure behind the creation of Bitcoin.
"I don't want money or fame, I just want to be alone," Wright said in the video, Monday (02/05/2016).
However, many people doubt Craig Wright's claims. Even though Gavin Andresen, one of Bitcoin's developers, supports this claim, many still feel that the evidence presented is not strong enough.

In fact, Wright was unable to produce the most significant piece of evidence—Satoshi Nakamoto's GNU Privacy Guard (GPG) private key, which could be used to sign messages or carry out Bitcoin transactions.
The controversy heated up when Wright was involved in the Bitcoin hard fork that created Bitcoin Cash, and later became the leader of Bitcoin Satoshi's Vision (BSV).
Even though Craig continues to try to position himself as an important figure in the world of Bitcoin, until now, the claim that he is Satoshi has not really been confirmed.
Another clue comes from the activity of a social media account believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto. On November 29, 2018, Satoshi's account on the P2P Foundation Forum suddenly posted a short status: "nour." This is the first time the account has been active since 2011, attracting the attention of the crypto community.
Even though the account is registered with the email used by Satoshi Nakamoto in the whitepaper, many doubt whether Satoshi still has control over the account, considering that the email service used could be disabled or taken over by someone else.
Len Sassaman Another “Fake” Satoshi Nakamoto Figure?
Apart from that, there has also been speculation regarding Len Sassaman, a cryptographer who died in 2011, who is considered a potential candidate for Nakamoto.
Sassaman is known for his work in the areas of privacy and decentralization, two key concepts underlying Bitcoin's ideology. The timing of his death which is close to Satoshi's disappearance from crypto forums further strengthens this theory.

Even prediction betting site Polymarket recently noted that many people were betting that Len Sassaman would be the figure referred to as Satoshi Nakamoto in the HBO documentary.
On the betting site, there are several other candidates, but Len Sassaman leads with 48 percent, followed by Hal Finney with 15 percent, Nick Szabo with 2 percent, and other candidates.
Although Sassaman died by suicide in 2011 after years of battling depression, his long history in the world of cryptography led many to believe that he was the figure behind Bitcoin.
The Ongoing Mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto
The hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto appears to be far from over and may never be finished. With various speculations and theories continuing to emerge, from Craig Wright to Len Sassaman, the crypto world continues to wait for confirmation.
Will HBO's upcoming documentary finally reveal the true identity of Bitcoin's creator? Or will this just be the addition of a new chapter in a series of theories that have been circulating for a long time?
Nevertheless, one thing is certain: as long as Satoshi Nakamoto remains in the shadows, the world will continue to be curious, and this mystery will remain one of the greatest puzzles in the history of digital finance. [dp]
