JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) noted that the value of crypto transactions in the country is still growing rapidly until August 2024. This is in line with the number of crypto investors which is still increasing. Chief Executive of Financial Sector Technology Innovation, Digital Asset and Crypto Asset Supervision OJK Hasan Fauzi said, in August 2024, the value of crypto transactions will reach IDR 48 trillion.
This value is higher than transactions in the previous month of IDR 42.34 trillion. With this increase, the value of crypto transactions from the beginning of the year to August 2024 reached IDR 344.09 trillion. This value shot up 354 percent compared to the same period last year. "The cumulative value of crypto asset transactions throughout 2024, namely from January - August, has been recorded at IDR 344.09 trillion," said Hasan, in a press conference, quoted on Wednesday (2/10/2024).
This surge is in line with the number of investors which is still increasing. The recorded number of crypto investors in Indonesia has reached 20.9 million, higher than July's 20.59 million investors.
In line with these developments, the OJK continues to finalize infrastructure preparations for implementing crypto supervision. This is in line with the transfer of crypto supervision from the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti) to the OJK on January 1 2025.
Deputy Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners Mirza Adityaswara said, OJK has prepared an adequate supervisory system and budget so that it is hoped that there will be continuity of supervision from the previous authority. OJK is also said to have supervision to supervise various financial services industries, including having a supervisory information system. "Of course it will further complement the implementation of supervision over crypto and open loop cooperatives," said Mirza.
